My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I feel tremendous sadness and empathy for everyone affected by the explosion. For all of us watching on the internet, on television or listening to news on the radio, the situation is shocking, but to those on the ground and their loved ones, their terror and pain and loss is devastating. My heart aches for what they are going through at this very moment.
Since 9-11 we, as a culture and a country, have not done a good or decent job of continuing to support our first-responders. The further we've gotten from the events of that terrible day, the more we've downsized, defunded, and often demonized police, EMTs, and firefighters. But seeing these brave men and women rushing into the heart of an explosion to rescue victims is nothing short of inspiring and heroic. Thank goodness for their presence at the marathon toda
